Selby cracking on with title mission

- By CHRIS MCKENNA

LEE SELBY is hatching a plan to become Wales’ first two- weight world champion after spending lockdown eating quail eggs.

The Barry boxer is a huge animal lover and at home has dogs, ferrets, chickens and quails.

Tonight at Wembley Arena he faces Australian George Kambosos Jnr in a final eliminator for the IBF lightweight title held by American Teofimo Lopez.

Selby would struggle to make featherweight in the past but now he can tip the scales 9lb heavier after his quail eggs diet.

He said: “Quails are my newest additions, they lay the little tiny eggs and up at lightweight I can eat a few more of the little eggs – but I wouldn’t eat one of my own quails.

“When I first got a quail I looked up some videos on Youtube and there was a video with a guy holding his pet quail and talking about looking after it.

“Then he took a pair of scissors and chopped its head off and started cooking it. I couldn’t believe it, poor little b***** d.

“I have always had animals, they don’t demand anything from you and win or lose they always run up to you and show you love.”

Selby may be one of Britain’s most stylish fighters but he’s not one to study fights.

He didn’t even watch Lopez’s huge win over Vasiliy Lomachenko this month despite wanting to be next in line for the winner.

But he is ready to step up and face the Brooklyn fighter if he gets past unbeaten Sydney man Kambosos.

He added: “My biggest goal now is being the first twoweight world champion from Wales – and it is in touching distance now after this fight.

“Lopez is a good fighter but I would happily take that fight.”
