I’m A Celeb contestants net pay deal

- By PETER DYKE peter. dyke@ dailystar. co. uk

I’M A Celebrity stars are going to be quids in after staging a secret revolt about their pay.

The campers used to have to give ITV a whopping 30% of any money they made when they came out of the jungle.

Bosses had cottoned on to the fact that celebrities would cash in after appearing on the show by bringing out books, clothing and fragrances, as well as picking up TV work and ad projects.

They wanted a slice of the action too so they put a clause into the stars’ contracts forcing them into handing over almost a third of any money they made for six months after I’m A Celebrity.

However, ITV have been forced into a U- turn after they began kicking up a stink about the issue – and some even refused to sign on the dotted line.

Borrow

A source said: “The stars usually get good offers after being on I’m A Celebrity and this means they can keep all the cash for themselves.”

This spells good news for the latest I’m A Celebrity guests, including ex- EastEnders fave Shane Richie, who said he is now skint after his work projects were all cancelled due to the Covid pandemic.

He revealed how lockdown had left him so skint that he had to borrow money from friends and family.

His company accounts show he was down to his last £ 4,000, having had more than £ 100,000 just a few years back.

The Alfie Moon legend, 56, can usually rely on a £ 100,000 winter theatre role to save his bacon. And he had been due to appear in Dick Whittington in London – but it has since been pulled.

But he will now pick up a similar- sized pay packet thanks to the ITV show.

He revealed: “I am literally skint. You save money for a rainy day but you don’t expect the rainy day to last six months. We can finally pay off the credit card.”

I’m A Celeb launches on ITV at 9pm on Sunday.
