Can it be Dingles all the way for Cain and Moira?

FANS DESPERATE TO SEE EMMERDALE FAVOURITES BACK TOGETHER

- By NATASHA WYNARCZYK

CAIN and Moira Dingle could finally get back together in tonight’s Emmerdale.

The fans’ favourites, played by Jeff Hordley and Natalie J. Robb, have spent months at the centre of a will they/ won’t they storyline.

They split last year but have grown closer in the wake of Moira’s affair with Cain’s son Nate.

When Moira was in hospital in the summer after a hit- and- run crash, Cain stayed by her side and even told her he loved her.

But he refused to take things any further, leaving Moira considering leaving the village for ever.

Matters come to a head tonight when they are finally forced to confront their feelings after being locked in a barn together.

And Jeff reckons Moira and hardman Cain could even become the new Zak and Lisa Dingle if they are finally reunited.

Mood

He says: “We’re still quite young and have another few more years to go – but there’s always potential for that if you keep us together.

“The longer you keep us together and the more things that are thrown at us, the stronger we become.”

Despite his previous relationship with Charity Dingle ( Emma Atkins), Jeff believes Moira is the only woman for Cain.

He adds: “I don’t think there’s going to be anyone else for him.

“So far in what we’ve seen of Cain in Emmerdale, Moira is the only person who can make him feel like this.

“She’s the only character apart from Zak who can talk any sense into Cain. If he’s seeing red, she can change that mood.

“There was a strong bond between Cain and Charity. I don’t get fans willing me to get back with Charity.

“That was more of a young love thing, while this is the real deal.”

Natalie has been approached in the street by people desperate for Cain and Moira to reunite. She says: “Everybody always comes up to me and asks when Cain and Moira are getting back together.

“It’s either that or they say ‘ why did you do that to Cain?’ I suppose the characters relate to a lot of people – people like it and that’s the main thing really.”

Jeff reckons his and Natalie’s real- life friendship is the key to why viewers love their characters.

“We have a lot of fun even when we are doing very serious scenes,” he explains.

“Natalie is such a force of nature on set and always brings something to the script. We have a laugh, are always on the same page, and I think that’s what probably translates to the audience.”

The latest scenes showing Moira apologising to Cain for how she treated him had to be filmed in a socially- distanct way. Natalie is full of praise for the Emmerdale team for making it work.

She says: “When I saw the episode for the first time I didn’t notice the social distancing at all. It was really edited well.

“I really liked the way the episode was written. I felt the way the episode was beautifully shot and romantic, the lighting of it was incredible, and it felt sexier in a way because you’re watching these two people coming together

and you know what’s in their heads.

“Moira and Cain slipped back into how they were as a couple, which is a strength that they have. It was good to film those scenes and I liked the power of them.” But Natalie doesn’t know how socially- distant filming is going to work in the long- term.

She adds: “I’m sure the team are working on ideas for when we have to do more intimate stuff, and I’m sure they will come up with other ways of filming.” Viewers have also seen Cain trying to rebuild his relationship with Nate ( Jurell Carter) after his son’s betrayal.

Jeff says: “The affair broke his heart because all the trust was gone, and it was a double whammy that it turned out Moira was cheating with his son as well.

“Nate and Cain are trying to make amends and work it out. Cain is going to forgive, but is he going to forget? I think that’s where we are trying to move to.”

And while Natalie and Jeff say it won’t be plain sailing for Moira and Cain, they would both like the couple to find some happiness, especially during the pandemic.

“In these Covid days, we need a bit more happiness, and maybe a little bit of light,” says Natalie. “But there’s definitely going to be bumps along the way for them.

“I would like Cain and Moira to have a bit of happiness together, but as we know in the world of soap, that doesn’t always equal great viewing. I think we need a period of stability and happiness, but we need to see what hurdles are put in front of them.”

● Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
