IT WAS such a shocking image to see. When I get in the car I know that I’m taking risks and I respect the dangers that are in this sport. I don’t know what Gs he pulled but I’m so grateful that the halo worked, I’m grateful that the barrier didn’t slice his head up or something like that. It could have been so much worse.

I haven’t looked at the images a lot, mainly because I didn’t want to, but a grand prix car and barrier are not supposed to fail like that. It shouldn’t fail and the car shouldn’t catch fire in that fashion.

It was scary. We saw a red flag, which doesn’t mean it’s immediately a bad thing. I saw a lot of fire and thought, ‘ That is not a good thing’. Luckily he is OK and hopefully he will recover.

To see him survive that is frankly a miracle. So happy the halo is on the car. Without it it would have been different. Just happy that we’ve still got Romain.

At first I was angry that he had turned across me in the way he did but that changed as soon as I saw the flames and what happened in my mirrors. I was really worried. I was hoping he was OK. I’m glad he is OK. It just reminds you that what we do is dangerous.

DANIIL KVYAT – DRIVER INVOLVED IN CRASH

The fire was worrying, the barrier coming apart was worrying, but we can be happy with safety of the car. We haven’t seen anything like that for a very long time, but the barrier splitting normally results in a fatality. The halo saved the day and it saved Romain.

ROSS BRAWN – F1’ S MANAGING DIRECTOR

It was horrible. It was really scary but I had no idea a Formula One car could break that way. The halo really proved to be working. I have text him to wish him a good recovery. I think he is fine but a really scary thing.

If the halo had not been there it could have been a different outcome. The way he walked away was incredible. Safety has moved along so much, so we can only be grateful.
