It’s a long job

- EXCLUSIVE ■ by AARON TINNEY news@dailystar.co.uk

MORE than a fifth of those who were about to retire have had to put plans on hold because of Covid.

Some 77% of over-50s believe their ability to retire has been directly affected by the virus.

David Rees, of insurers British Seniors, who carried out the study, said: “Those approaching retirement have been hit hard, and for some their retirement dream is increasingly falling out of reach.”

BRITAIN’S top celebrity hairdresser Nicky Clarke is backing our Bring Back The Mullet campaign.

He threw his weight behind the Daily Star’s call for the return of the 80s do as he reckons it’s one of the easiest barnets to maintain while waiting for hairdressers to reopen.

But the 62-year-old suspects there will be a mullet cull come April 12 when hair salons in England are set to trade again.

Nicky, who has styled A-list mullet wearers including the late David Bowie, said: “In some respects the mullet is probably an easier one as a do-it-yourself hairdo because you just concentrate on the front and sides and you can let the back go.”

The legendary crimper revealed his old pal and Daily Star columnist Pat Sharp had recently been in touch to say he was backing our call for a mullet boom to raise smiles during self-isolation.

But Nicky told Pat, 59, not to return to his old mullet style.

He said: “I texted Pat saying he’s been there and done that and it really doesn’t work the second time around on him.”

Nicky also stuck up for PM Boris Johnson’s hair after he was ridiculed on social media.

He said: “I’m more interested in what he does than the way he looks.”
