PIERS Morgan compared a shy guy who quit Britain for a new private life abroad with Kim Jong-un.
The Good Morning Britain host said the fella shared similar traits with the North Korean despot – because they both only want “positive media coverage”.
The 55-year-old accused the bloke and his equally shy wife of
“off the charts” hypocrisy after they sat down to discuss their desire for privacy in a two-hour interview with Oprah Winfrey.
During a trailer for Sunday’s TV chat the man tells how it has been “unbelievably tough” for the pair to quit their jobs in England for a new life in a vast £8million mansion in the US.
It sparked fury from Piers who told co-host Susanna Reid: “They only want positive media coverage. Who else wants that?
“Oh, Vladimir Putin, Kim Jongun. They want only positive media coverage, don’t they?
“That’s not how it works in a democracy.”
He also referenced the interview with James Corden on US TV last month in which the man appeared in an open top bus.
Piers added: “Does it get any more embarrassing than this, being on an open top bus while banging on about press coverage?
“The hypocrisy is off the charts: ‘Please leave us alone but let us do open top bus interviews.’”
Piers said later online that “being left alone is the very last thing” the couple wanted, adding: “They’ve embarked on a relentless media blitz that makes a complete mockery of their claim to want privacy.”
He also said the shy guy had displayed a “staggering degree of self-wallowing narcissism” by moaning about how tough they had found it “after a year in which 2.5million people have died in a global pandemic and tens of millions have lost their jobs”.
