TOP trainer Gordon Elliott has been sacked as an ambassador for bookmakers Betfair after he was pictured sitting on a dead horse.
Irishman Elliott is under investigation after a photo showing him appear to make a two-fingered “peace” sign while straddling the collapsed animal on his gallops was posted on social media.
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board has launched an inquiry into the photo which Elliott has admitted is real and says was taken “some time ago”.
The 43-yearold claimed he sat on the horse “without thinking” while taking a phone call.
The trainer has apologised “profoundly”.
Yesterday Betfair said: “While we recognise that Gordon deeply regrets and apologised unreservedly for his poor judgment his actions are completely at odds with the values of the Betfair brand and that of our employees.
“With that in mind, we have decided to discontinue our association
with Gordon immediate effect.”
The trainer of two-time Grand National winner Tiger Roll said: “I apologise profoundly for any offence that this photo has caused.”
