Littler Mix and match

‘NEW DAWN’ FOR GIRLS

- ■ by ANDREW JAMESON andrew.jameson@dailystar.co.uk

JESY Nelson’s departure has spurred the remaining

Little Mix members on to chase solo projects.

The girls hinted they’ve been exploring their individual passions since Jesy, right, quit the group. Lockdown taught the threesome it’s OK to explore their own identities and stop relying on each other as much.

Jade Thirlwall told Glamour: “I’m not saying that we’re codependent, but we do heavily rely on each other, so it’s been healthy to take a step back and think: ‘What do I want?’

“As we come together and work together this year, we’ll have an even better and healthier relationship with that perspective.

“This time’s taught me that I am still figuring out who I am, too... It’s beautiful we’re still a group, but we want to help push each other to do our own thing, too.”

However, Jade,

Edwards and Pinnock they will remain a strong threesome too, and teased new music is imminent.

“It’s like a new dawn of Little Mix”, Jade said.

They might find themselves in a chart battle with Jesy as she was spotted leaving a London studio ahead of the launch of her solo career. Still, this summer marks 10 years of Little Mix and they’re proud of how far they’ve come. Reflecting on their time in the industry, Jade said: “It’s impactful, to show others that you can have longevity, you can break barriers, win awards and break records on the back of sticking together and being a force for women. “If I had a little girl, seeing that unfold before her, from being 10 years to 20 years old, what a great thing to have in the pop industry as a message to young women.”

It wasn’t easy though – the girls had to overcome some serious sexism.

Leigh-anne said: “There have been times, like with [music] labels, [where they’ve] backed us into a corner and it is obviously mainly men; they see us as four women and don’t take us seriously. We’ve had that for our whole career. Even until recently, I’m asking: ‘Has much really changed?’”

MOUTHY media commentator Roy Greenslade has quit his university post amid outrage at his support for the IRA.

The ex-guardian columnist, who once branded your Daily Star a “pathetic article”, used to secretly write for a republican newsletter.

Mr Greenslade, now a Sinn Fein member, also guaranteed bail for IRA thug

John Downey who was accused over the 1982 Hyde Park bombing.

Furious Mark Tipper, whose brother Simon was one of four soldiers killed in the blast, accused Mr Greenslade of “preaching hatred”.

He added: “His academic peers should be taking a look at him.

“You hear the pen is mightier than the sword and he preached violence.”

Mr Greenslade yesterday quit as honorary visiting fellow of journalism at City, University of London.

He reportedly said the decision was “purely mine”.

A university spokesman said he was not pushed to quit and “acknowledged his right to express his views”. Mr Greenslade came out of “hiding” at the weekend with his sympathy for the IRA’S bombing campaigns. The 74-year-old said he was in “complete agreement about the right of the Irish people to engage in armed struggle”. He added: “I supported the use of physical force.”

He wrote all he knew of Downey is his “dedication to peace”. Downey’s criminal case collapsed but a high court judge ruled in 2019 he was an “active participant” in the Hyde Park outrage. Mr Greenslade added of his secret support for the IRA: “I continued to keep my views to myself. “However much I believed its tactics valid, I could not hope to convince colleagues killing of civilians, albeit by accident, was justifiable.’” Last night PM Boris Johnson said he “condemns” the comments.
