Council of War

- By SIMON BIRD

NEIL WARNOCK is ready to thrash out his future with Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson tomorrow.

The pair will meet to set a direction for the Teesside club ahead of the summer and next season.

Warnock, 72, is under contract until the end of the season and has to decide whether to stay on.

Boro are on the fringes of the play-offs but could fall just short because of a lack of goals.

They are away to

Coventry tonight and Warnock has shown plenty of spirit and fight in the job, rescuing them from relegation last season and improving the team.

And despite a Covid health scare, he has bounced back to top form.

Warnock said: “When you’ve been here the length of time like I have here now, it’s good for me to tell him what I think maybe needs adjusting.

“I’m sure we’ll talk about my future as well.”

MANCHESTER UNITED have been boosted by the news Zlatan Ibrahimovic will miss his return to Old Trafford next week in the Europa League.

United will take on AC Milan in the first leg of the last 16 on March 11 – and Ibrahimovic was relishing facing his former club.

But the Swedish veteran has been ruled out for up to two weeks with a thigh problem.

The striker, 39, was taken off during Sunday’s Serie A win over Roma and will miss four games.

His absence will be a shot in the arm for United as he has scored 14 goals in 15 Serie A matches this season and would have been pumped up for the showdown.

Ibrahimovic spent two years at United, scoring 29 goals in 53 games and helping them win the Europa League, League Cup and Community Shield in his first season.
