Home works

-

WORKING from home will continue after the pandemic – with staff saying they plan to spend no more than two days a week in the office, MPS have been told.

Consultants Deloitte said coronavirus would have a dramatic effect on the future of city centres.

Ian Stewart, chief economist at Deloitte, said: “There has been a long-term move towards greater home working.”

And the CBI told the Commons treasury committee businesses will keep just 70% of their office space because of home working.

THERE always seems to be a not-sofine line between need and greed with MPS’ expenses.

In most jobs, there are things for which you would reasonably expect your employer to pay. But our politicians always seem to be trying to push the system as far as it can go.

So it’s hard to listen to Labour deputy leader Angela Rayner when she talks about Government waste.

Yes, she may have a point.

But how are we meant to take her seriously when she brazenly claimed for a pair of snazzy £250 Apple Airpods on taxpayers’ money? Especially when it emerges she doesn’t seem to use them very often on work Zoom calls, if at all?

It doesn’t matter a jot if the rules allow such pointless extravagance. Or that others may have done the same.

We want – but, to be fair, probably don’t expect any more – our wannabe leaders to be decent folk. This sort of outrageous spending does no favours for our already shattered confidence in Westminster.

The least she should do is apologise and pay back the money.

JEREMY Clarkson has taunted Americans over Piers Morgan’s row over the shy couple.

The former Top Gear host joked that Britain had won the swap after Morgan returned to the UK following a stint in the States.

Meanwhile, the publicity-shy pair are living in California.

The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? host, 60, tweeted: “People of America. You sent Piers Morgan back to the UK.

“Now look what we’ve sent back to you. Ha. We win.” But one person replied: “I would rather have [them] any day over that old unhappy Morgan.”
