HUTCH HAS A WILL TO WIN
WILLY HUTCHINSON could go on to become the next Joe Calzaghe.
Now it is time for the Scottish supermiddleweight to show that potential.
Hutchinson takes on Lennox Clarke for the vacant British and Commonwealth titles tonight.
This is a real step up for the Carstairs puncher but one I believe he is more than ready for.
Hutchinson is one of Scotland’s most decorated amateur boxers and has been making his way in the pro ranks with 13 wins so far.
This is his night to burst on to the scene and prove just how good he can be.
Britain has had a great history of super-middleweights and I played a big part in the best one to come from these shores in Welshman Calzaghe.
I’ve got no doubts that Hutchinson can achieve great things in the division.
Meanwhile Queensberry continue to work on making Tyson Fury against Anthony Joshua for this year, with contracts having been signed last week.
Bob Arum and I have been speaking daily and considering venue options, with Wembley remaining on the table which would be great for the fans.
This is dependent on Covid restrictions obviously, as in order for the UK to have a chance of hosting the fight, we need a good gate to help pay the fighters.
It was good to see that Eddie Hearn accepted this week that the UK has to be considered an option.
This is down to a combination of things – one is he’s aware that the way we guarantee keeping all the heavyweight belts on the line is a summer bout, but I am sure he also has one eye on the expiration date of his contract with Sky AND AJ.
Word on the street is Eddie may be leaving the Sky empire for the DAZN app, and I’m sure that AJ – a Sky ambassador – will have a tough decision to make about where he takes his career.
Back to our show tonight at the Copper Box.
Keep an eye out for featherweight Louie Lynn while heavyweight Nathan Gorman looks to continue his rebuild.
