IT’S 10 years since we had a new Evanescenc­e album, and it may have been longer without the pandemic.

The Bitter Truth arrived last Friday, a collection that founder Amy Lee struggled to complete after huge changes in her life ranging from motherhood to the grief of losing family members.

However, Covid-19 changed everything. Amy said: “Some songs in part started 10 years ago, but a lot of things have happened in our lives, like the birth of my son. Becoming a mother changes your world view, so that really inspired this record.

“Then 2020 happened and everything changed for everybody.

“That was a wake-up call, I really HAD to release this record. I feel like the pandemic has been beneficial for creativity.

“We were all feeling that end of the world kind of feeling. But now

Shirley music has become central to people’s lives again. I saw images on social media of people singing on their balconies in lockdown.

“It brought me joy. It gave me the push to finish this album.”

Use My Voice is an empowering call-to-arms for women to stand up for their rights. Amy explained: “I worked on that song for a year, watching everything that was going on, and allowed time for my anger to subside.”
