I have to confess that for all her vanity and front she’s never struck me as a happy person.
She’ll say she envies me my “boring nature” which I’m never sure is a compliment.

If your girlfriend is guilty of cheating on you and riding roughshod over your emotions, then you don’t have to take that. I get the impression that you’ve always been in awe of her because she’s never stopped telling you how wonderful she is.
But she’s not the only lover in the world and, perhaps, you would be better off with someone else. It’s possible that she has narcissistic personality disorder.
This is a mental condition in which individuals have an inflated sense of their own importance.
If she’s also prone to falling out with people and showing a lack of empathy, then it could be that she’d benefit from some kind support.
I find it interesting you say she’s doesn’t strike you as a particularly happy woman, that she actually seems to envy your easy-going nature.
It’s possible that she struggles with mental turmoil – that she doesn’t actually like how she acts but can’t help herself.
I think you should encourage her to speak to her GP. If you continue to clash yet she refuses to meet you halfway, then do you stay or do you go? Check out personality disorders at nhs.uk of
