Salah’s Spanish whisper

- ■ by DAVID MADDOCK

MO SALAH has raised speculation about his Liverpool future after suggesting that he wants to play in Spain.

In an interview with Spanish media ahead of facing Real Madrid next week in the Champions League, the Egypt forward remained diplomatic when asked if it was time for him to leave Anfield.

He said: “It’s not up to me. We’ll see what happens but I prefer not to talk about that now.”

But when asked if he was keen to try Spanish football, he added: “I hope to be able to play for many more years. Why not? No one knows what’s going to happen in the future, so... maybe one day, yes.”

Salah has given several interviews to Spanish media in recent months where he has discussed the subject as contract talks over a new deal at Anfield appear to be on hold until the summer at least.

In the past, he has appeared to show his frustration at lack of progress with negotiations, with his agent posting several cryptic messages

about the player’s situation. It is understood the interview was arranged through his agent Ramy Abbas Issa, who has provoked fan anger in the past with his pointed messages.

When Salah was substituted by manager Jurgen Klopp recently, the lawyer tweeted a single full stop, which many fans interpreted as the striker’s Anfield career coming to an end.

But Klopp has been impressed by the player’s dedication in a difficult season, while Salah is just desperate to win more trophies.

When asked about his career plan, he said: “I hope to be doing the same thing that I’ve been doing in recent years. Winning trophies, scoring goals, helping my team win trophies. That’s the most important thing for me.”
