It was Cavani who put them ahead with a brilliant diving header from a perfect cross by Greenwood who had just come on.
Cavani then made a crucial contribution at the other end with a defensive header off his own crossbar after Pogba accidentally nodded a corner into the danger area.
And there was still time for sloppy Spurs to cough up a third, with Greenwood powering home after Dier and Sergio Reguilon were beaten far too easily.
