OUR £350k HOME IS TRUCKING HELL

Couple viewed house 7 times...at weekends

A COUPLE say their lives are being made hell after buying a new £350,000 home – 9ft from a dual carriageway.

Jackie Mccormack, 58, and her husband moved into the three-bed detached property beside the A446 – one of Britain’s busiest roads – after viewing it seven times.

But each visit was on a Saturday morning when there’s hardly any traffic.

Now the house shakes every time a truck goes past and they say the garden is a no-go zone for their grandson, because the fence bends when an HGV blasts by.

The couple wear ear plugs to bed at night, but are still woken by traffic noise at 5.30am every weekday.

If the house viewings had been at any other time Jackie says she “would not have touched it with a barge pole”.

She added: “It started on the Monday with the heavy goods vehicles – my house was constantly shaking.

“I didn’t realise there was an injunction regarding boy racers on the A446.

They don’t take any notice of it. They started at 11am on the Saturday and went right the way through to 4am on Sunday, hitting speeds of 90-100mph.

“You don’t get any respite at all. It’s relentless.

“My fence is 9ft away from the edge of the A446. Every now and again, you get a sway of the HGV vehicles.

“The HGVS are absolutely horrendous and the pollution that comes out

of them – it’s disgraceful. I’m washing my windows three or four times a week.”

Jackie moved into the property in Coleshill, Warks, in February.

She added: “I’m going to fight tooth and nail to get this sorted out.

“I’m not moving. I can’t move because nobody would buy the house.

“They’ve told me that they haven’t had any crashes in years, but I’m not prepared to take that risk. They have

to reduce the speed limit – they have to.” She is campaigning for the council to install crash barriers and speed cameras. Jackie also wants the speed limit reduced to 40mph so her grandson can play outside.

A Warwickshire County Council spokesman said: “A meeting is being arranged with various stakeholders to discuss this.”
