NEVILLE: IT’S CRIMINAL

-

back the power in this country from the clubs at the top of this league.

“That includes my club. They’re an absolute joke and the time has come now, independent regulator, stop these clubs having the power base – enough is enough.”

Neville (inset) added: “The motivation is greed. Relegate United, Liverpool and Arsenal because those three clubs are the history of this country – they should be the ones to suffer most.

“Deduct them all points tomorrow, put them at the bottom of the league and take the money off them. Seriously, you have to stamp on this. It’s a criminal act against football fans in this country.

“I’m not against the modernisation of football competitions but I am disgusted, and I’m disgusted with Manchester United and Liverpool most.

“Liverpool pretend ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, that they’re the people’s club, the fan’s club. Manchester United, 100 years born out of workers around here.

“And they’re breaking away into a league that they can’t be relegated from? It’s an absolute disgrace.”

Last night, the Premier League joined forces with FA, La Liga and Serie A bosses in condemning the plans, describing them as “attacking the principles and sporting merit” of the game.

UEFA promised to sue clubs involved and ban players who take part in the Super League from all competitions.

The Premier League said a European Super League would “destroy” the dream of fans that “their team may climb to the top and play against the best”.

It added such a league would “undermine the appeal of the whole game”.
