DON’T LET DREAM DIE BLASTS BREN

-

BRENDAN RODGERS claims Leicester’s fairy-tale title win five years ago could have been the real game-changer for shaking up the Premier League’s elite.

The Foxes boss says the stunning 2016 victory shows why it is wrong to kill off the dreams of the underdogs.

Rodgers said: “For us to be able to compete in there is what the game is about.

“Leicester’s story, with that remarkable year of winning the league and then obviously looking to try and build from that again, is what

■ by DAVE ARMITAGE the game is about. Teams like West Ham, Wolves and Everton, and teams that have been up and around it, have every right to dream as well and then hope they can go on and challenge.

“If you see the progress of Leicester over the course of the last 10 years, they are a great example of the story and the merits of progression in a club.”

Rodgers (right), who signs off his match programme notes with ‘Everything is possible’, reckons the threatened breakaway totally destroys the game’s competitive element.

He said: “Absolutely. That’s always got to be your hopes and dreams as a club.

“We understand the climate, the resources and certain limitations you may have, but that should never stop you fighting.

“That’s something I’ve always said, from the first day I came in. We know that the top six is established from a football perspective but let’s challenge that. “Let’s go and find ways to see if we can arrive in there and I think this club has shown you can do that. “But the challenge is to look to build that base to be up at the summit and challenge there consistently. “If you look at the Leicester story, and the evolution of this club, they are a great reference of success and why you allow the clubs the opportunity to do that.”

a little by who just loves to play football. It’s not about a certain entity in this case, it’s about football all over the world.

“Let’s keep inspiring the next generation of footballers and keep the fans dreaming.”

The fans the Belgian referred to are now the ones who have used people power to take down some of the richest and most arrogant football bosses in history.

The most high-profile victim on a night of footballing Armageddon was Manchester United puppetmaster Ed Woodward. United’s executive vice-chairman has been one of the most influential movers and shakers in bringing the ESL to fruition.

But in a shock development amid all the chaos, it emerged he was quitting.

United attempted to claim it had always been Woodward’s plan to step aside at the end of 2021.

But there was no escaping the truth that the best mate of club co-owner Joel Glazer, self-appointed vice-president of the ESL, had fallen on his own sword. Few will shed a tear.

Woodward and his European cabal read the room with a blindfold on and their private plotting and scheming has been exposed for what it is. Utter greed.

This lot tried to kill European football but underestimated the size of the backlash to leave us with one more thought.

Never underestimate the incompetence of people in power – and never disrespect those who have helped them achieve it.
