CHE IN REALLY GREAT SHAPE

But Scots stall against 10 men

- ■ by SIMON BIRD

STEVE CLARKE declared Scotland ready for the Euros – despite their wasteful finishing.

Southampton striker Che Adams grabbed his second goal in four games to send the Tartan Army into the tournament with a win.

But has boss Clarke now got enough reliable finishers to rev up their challenge?

England’s defence won’t be quaking after some glaring misses.

Adams struck in the first half and looks set to start in their tournament opener against Czech Republic a week today.

The former Birmingham hitman was denied another when harshly ruled to have shoved a Luxembourg defender.

But with the hosts down to 10 men for the last hour after Vahid

Selimovic was sent off for pulling down Lyndon Dykes, they failed to add to their tally.

Most notably of their 18 shots, Scott Mctominay fluffed a free header five yards out and Adams screwed a volley over the bar when he should have scored.

“We obviously didn’t do enough crossing and finishing practice!” said Clark, whose side have lost only twice in 16 games.

“Expectations? We should enjoy the games and try to be on the front foot.

“When we have the ball, we will create chances. The tournament has been a long time coming and we most of it.”

Adams netted from 12 yards after Dykes opened up the home defence with a well-weighted pass. Scotland fancy their chances at the Euros and have momentum.

However, they are not just turning up for the party and to erase a painful 23 years without tournament football.

Striker Dykes vowed to “more clinical” at the finals.

He said: “We are disappointed we didn’t score more.

“It could have been four or five nil. We are ready for the Euros and when the chances come, we have to be more clinical.” SCOTLAND (3-5-2): Marshall 6; Hanley 7, Gallagher 6 (Mckenna 46, 6), TIERNEY 8; O’donnell 7 (Patterson 64, 6), Mcgregor 6 (Gilmour 46, 6, Forrest 76), Mctominay 7, Mcginn 7, Robertson 7 (Fraser 64, 6); Dykes 6 (Nisbet 82), Adams 7.
