Chris on aliens... and all that Jizz

-

CHRIS Martin visited a galaxy far, far away before making the new Coldplay album.

Star Wars was the first source of inspiration behind the band’s new songs, in particular a memorable scene from the 1977 movie.

Chris explained: “One time I was watching Star Wars and they had the scene with the Cantina band, right?

“And I was like: ‘I wonder what musicians are like across the universe?’ and that led to this whole thing and now here we are.”

That Cantina band was actually called Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes and according to Star Wars folklore the music they specialise in is called “jizz” – something Coldplay are perhaps capable of doing themselves.

Chris unveiled a sci-fi inspired video for current single Higher Power and confirmed the album follows an extraterrestrial theme, set on fictional planet Kaotica. He continued: “It led to us imagining this whole other place called ‘the spheres’ which is like a group of planets, like a solar system with lots of different places and creatures and stuff.

“And what I found is when you’ve imagined a place like that you can sort of become any artist within that.

“It’s a very freeing thing to take yourself out of Coldplay and just think: ‘OK, I’m not even a human, what does music sound like?’”

It will be the ninth Coldplay album and, according to Chris, possibly one of the last.

He revealed: “I do know how many albums we have left as a band and it’s not that many before we’re gonna stop making albums, I think.”

Max Martin, who Chris reckons was “sent from the universe”, is producing the album.

IT’S fair to say Raye hasn’t enjoyed the solo success her talent deserves.

The star, who also provides hits for half of the rest of the pop world, looks sets to change all that with new single Call On Me on Friday.

She said: “It’s been a long journey, we’ve had lots of different genres and flavours of music and lots of different colours of hair.

“But thank you for bearing with me and seeing me through all my different phases and I’m so excited for this next one.”
