JUGGERNAUT SET TO ROLL

- FRANK WARREN Interview by CHRIS MCKENNA

JOE JOYCE has been a patient man for seven months but his time is coming.

‘The Juggernaut’ will be rolling again soon.

Plans are being put in place for his next outing, which is looking like it will be July 24.

Carlos Takam is one of the opponents we are looking at for that.

Tony Yoka – the man who controversially beat Joyce in the Rio 2016 Olympic final – has also been considered.

But we will be getting one of the big stars of the heavyweight division moving soon.

Momentum is everything in boxing and after his huge win over Daniel Dubois in November we were ready to really push Joyce (above) on.

But numerous things have got in our way.

Obviously the Covid-19 situation has meant putting on cards is difficult.

But the main problem has been the heavyweight division being clogged up at the top for 12 months.

Joyce is right there waiting for his chance, so we haven’t been able to push the button on any plans while we awaited it all to clear. If Anthony

Joshua faced Tyson Fury for the undisputed crown, then Joyce would have got a crack at Oleksandr Usyk for the interim WBO belt.

That winner would then have been made full champion once the undisputed clash happened.

So we were initially waiting on the outcome of those negotiations.

Obviously, then, Deontay Wilder threw a spanner in the works but it still left us waiting on Joyce.

It wasn’t clear if Joshua would face his WBO mandatory challenger in Usyk next and so we had to wait.

If we pushed ahead and fought someone else and then Joshua decided to vacate, Joyce would have missed out on his crack at the world title.

Now it looks like Joshua will face Usyk in September, Joyce will get back in action in a tough fight that will help prepare him for a world title shot.

The British and European champion must keep winning but his chance will come.

And when it does, I believe he will take it.
