Jordan roars to inspire Tigers

- By GARETH WALKER

JORDAN TURNER cemented his status as one of Super League’s most shrewd signings as Cas’ continued their derby dominance over Wakefield.

The experienced utility-back scored one try and made another – as well as switching positions during the game, moving from wing to stand-off.

Jamaican international Turner has been a key figure for Daryl Powell’s side since joining from Huddersfield and he produced another influential display.

With centre Peter Mata’utia also touching down and laying on Turner’s try, the Tigers maintained a winning run against Wakefield that dates back to 2015.

The last time Trinity had beaten their local rivals, Tigers hooker Paul Mcshane was a Wakefield player and he helped craft the opening for prop George Griffin to down.

But the home side hit back within five minutes as skipper Jacob Miller reached over to level the score.

Castleford took a four-point lead into the break with a superb effort just before half-time.

Mata’utia broke clear through the middle and produced a perfect pass for the prolific Turner to finish out wide.

Both sides finished the half with worrying injuries.

First, Tigers half-back Gareth O’brien was helped off after falling awkwardly – four weeks before the club’s Challenge Cup final clash with St Helens.

Then Trinity centre Bill Tupou was stretchered off after his knee appeared to buckle without a Castleford hand being laid on him.

The home side were dealt a further blow 10 minutes after the restart when Max Jowitt fumbled and Michael Shenton pounced to score.

The gap was 12 points when Mata’utia took a Turner pass to force his way over just before the hour mark.

Miller set up a grandstand finish by touching down Mason Lino’s smart kick to make it 12-18, but the Tigers just about held on in a frantic finale to secure victory. score touch
