BATTLE OF BRITAIN 1 DAY TO GO THAT’S MAG IC

Fit-again Harry raring to get stuck into Scots

HARRY MAGUIRE has told Gareth Southgate he is fit again and desperate to do battle with Scotland at Wembley tomorrow night.

The England centre-back has spent the last seven weeks sidelined with damaged ankle ligaments that ruined the end to his domestic season.

The Manchester United captain missed the Europa League Final and was expected to sit out all three Group D games at the Euros.

But Maguire has recovered ahead of schedule to target a shock comeback against the Auld Enemy in London.

The 28-year-old’s return is a huge boost to Southgate, who is expected to name him on the bench for the showdown with Steve Clarke’s men.

Maguire said: “I feel good and I’ve been training now. Obviously the injury was a setback and

internationally I wanted to come into this with a lot of games under my belt with full fitness, but I feel good.

“I’m back available, been training and I’m looking forward to it.

“I’ve done a few sessions now and feel like my fitness is there.

“I wasn’t able to make the Europa League Final but I managed to make this squad – I’m here now and ready to go.

“I’m available to the manager for selection.

“I’m here as a player, but also as a fan, so I fully understand my position in the camp. Whatever happens I want England to win – that’s my main focus.”

Maguire admits his ankle could still give him discomfort in the weeks to come but he is willing to go through the pain barrier to help England’s bid to conquer Europe.

He said: “From speaking to players and physios, I’m sure it will be niggling. But as long as it’s stable and the pain is bearable, then I’m sure I’ll be fine.”
