Tate hates party time

RISING STAR S0 SCARED OF 18TH

-

NEW pop sensation Tate Mcrae is worried about turning 18 next month – because she hates birthday parties.

The Canadian behind No3 hit You Broke Me First admits she’s less nervous doing gigs to huge crowds than being at shindigs.

Tate, whose big day is on July 1, told me: “I usually hate birthdays, as I hate when the attention is all on me. As an artist, I know that’s ironic.

“I find it easier to be on stage singing to thousands of people.

“At a birthday, you know everyone around you and it makes the attention a lot more intense.

“We’ll see what happens, but my mom is probably planning something for my 18th.”

Tate’s new single Working features Eastside chart-topper Khalid – who Tate says gave her the best advice she’s ever had.

“Khalid told me to trust my gut,” said Tate, whose single Tear Myself Apart was written by Billie Eilish

and her brother Finneas.

Tate added: “Khalid said: ‘You know best.

“‘If you don’t like a song right now, you’re not going to want to perform it in 10 years.’ He’s so right. I’ve released songs before where I’ve thought, ‘That’s not me at all.’ I knew it, but I didn’t have the confidence to say it.

“I do now, and I make sure my music is 100% me.”

Tate makes her British live debut at Reading And Leeds Festival in August, where she hopes to see her hero Post Malone play.

She said: “Post is the best, I love him. He’s the artist I want to work with more than anyone.

“At Reading And Leeds, I want to put on my show and then rush off and watch Post Malone.”

Dua Lipa is also on Tate’s wishlist to get in the studio with.

Tate, who finished third in US TV show So You Think You Can Dance in 2016, enthused: “Dua Lipa is incredible.

“I’d love to work with Justin Bieber too.

“My first concert ever, as a 12-year-old, was seeing Justin Bieber in Calgary.

“I was one of four dancers Justin picked from the crowd to dance with on stage.

“No way does Justin remember that, but I sure do.”
