WATCHING Jeremy Clarkson on TV could be a cure for viewers suffering from insomnia.

Researchers found that nearly two-thirds (63%) of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? viewers fell asleep during the programme.

The second most sleep-inducing show was The Great British Bake Off which sent 61% off to the land of nod.

BBC heavyweight political programme Newsnight was third – with more than half (56%) of those polled snoozing during the programme.

The survey was conducted by Buzzbingo.com who asked 2,000 adults which programmes were most likely to have them nodding off in the armchair.

The other shows that made up the top five were repeats of

Jim Bowen’s classic game show

Bullseye (55%) and BBC Two’s

Gardeners’ World (54%).

The top 10 soporific shows also featured soaps Coronation Street, Eastenders, Emmerdale plus Antiques Roadshow and crime show Midsomer Murders.

David Abrams, spokesman for Buzzbingo.com, said: “We were shocked when we found Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? turned out to be a snoozefest.

“We thought Jeremy Clarkson would have had viewers on the edge of their seat, but it seems to be just the opposite.” The show that kept viewers most awake was the Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman glamfest Strictly Come Dancing.

The research found that only 7% dropped off during the dance show.

“At least Strictly has still got the nation gripped,” said Mr Abrams.
