- By JERRY LAWTON

Scotland – the only game they have failed to win or score in.

He recalled it for the 1-0 win over the Czech Republic, which ensured England finished top of their group.

It was selected again for the historic last-16 win over Germany.

And he was proudly sporting it once more during Saturday’s 4-0 quarterfinal drubbing of Ukraine.

Fans have hailed it England’s lucky omen, claiming it was no coincidence that the team’s only hiccup in the tournament against Scotland was a tie-free affair.

Since then England have not stopped scoring and stand on the brink of our first major tournament final in 55 years.

Supporters have launched a campaign to compel him to wear his tie for both the semi and Sunday’s final.

Some hailed it “the new waistcoat” after the smart fashion item that helped inspire England’s journey to the 2018 World Cup semi-finals.

One fan wrote: “Can we all just stop pretending Southgate knows what he’s doing and admit it’s down to his lucky tie (which he didn’t wear v Scotland).’’

A second tweeted: “Southgate’s knitted polka dot tie is the new waistcoat.’’ Another wrote: “Dear FA. Do not let Mr Southgate take off that tie. Signed, England.’’

A Match Of The Day viewer pointed out: “Gary Lineker noticed Gareth Southgate has his lucky tie on again, not worn during the Scotland game.”

“Southgate’s tie’s a winner – just like his team,’’ added another.

Bookmakers say the England boss is odds-on to get a knighthood if England win the tournament.

Betfair was offering odds of just 1-6 that the manager and captain

Harry Kane will get a call to Buckingham Palace should they lift the trophy on Sunday.

England are now 6-4 favourites ahead of Italy at 9-4, Spain (11-4) and Denmark, who are 15-2 outsiders.

Betfair spokesman Sam Rosbottom said: “With the country now starting to dream, attention has turned to what could come next and the betting suggests if football comes home, Southgate and Kane will head straight from Wembley to Buckingham Palace.

“England are favourites. There’s never been a better chance of The Three Lions making history.’’
