A Happy reminder

SHAUN FORGOT HIS ALBUM OF 11 YEARS AGO

-

VETERAN hellraiser Shaun Ryder says catching Covid was like having a dead rat up his bum.

The Happy Mondays and Black Grape star has come close to death a few times.

But he says catching the virus from his two young daughters, was the scariest experience of his life.

Recalling his fears, Shaun told me: “Covid was nasty. It felt like a rat had crawled up my backside and died there.

“My wife Joanne caught it too, and we thought we were dying. As rough as it was, I know it could have been worse.

“I didn’t have the worst of it because I never needed to go to hospital.

“I had it worse than my missus, though, or I reckon I did.

“She was looking after the kids while I was still in bed, dying of man-flu.”

Shaun eventually recovered to finish off his brilliant new album Visits From Future Technology.

It’s out in August, with catchy first single Mumbo Jumbo out now.

Amazingly, Shaun started the album 11 years ago.

It got abandoned when the rocker went on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here in 2010, finishing runner-up to Stacey Solomon.

Shaun, who tours with Black Grape in September, explained: “I changed manager while

I was in the jungle.

“When I came out, my new manager wanted to build my telly profile. The record was forgotten.

During lockdown, loads of singers wanted me to guest on their records and that reminded me I’d finished a record myself.

“Me and my producer started messing about with it on that Zoom tackle, finished it off and it’s dead good.”

I’ll bring you more soon.
