BOYS & GIRLS: WALT DISNEY LIKE IT NOW
‘Woke theme parks taking the Mickey..’
DISNEY is being accused of “woke garbage” after banning “ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls” from its theme park greetings.
The welcoming phrase has been changed to “friends, dreamers and everyone” to promote gender inclusivity.
It was spotted by fans as its resorts started to reopen after Covid restrictions easing. One raged on Twitter: “Mickey Mouse woke!”
Others blasted the move as “crap”, “garbage” and “BS”, saying: “Disneyland is for the boys and girls.”
A Disney fan said: “There is no way in hell to cater for everyone who whines,” while another added:
“People and companies really need to stop changing everything that was originally made.”
Former theme park announcer Jack Wagner – dubbed “the voice of
Disney” – estimated he had spoken the greeting “Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, dreamers of all ages” at least eight million times.
In one theme park it will now be: “Good evening, dreamers of all ages.”
Other resorts are using:
“Good evening, friends”.
The updated announcement will be used in all of
Disney’s 12 parks. It has already been heard at a preview of the Orlando resort’s iconic fireworks display.
A Toyko Disneyland spokesman said it changed its greeting from “ladies and gentlemen” to “everyone” in March to make sure people of all sexual and gender identities felt “comfortable in the park”.
A Disney spokesman added: “It’s part of a broader effort around diversity and inclusion.”
Last week, it also ditched the name Slave 1 from a new Star Wars telly show.
