TOUCH WOOD

You gave Harry’s magic balls a good rub and we got a semi.. but for that little bit of extra luck against Denmark tonight

- ■ by JERRY LAWTON

ONCE more unto the breach, dear friends, as England play Denmark in tonight’s semi. To aid their cause, would you mind touching wood?

TOUCH wood – and help Gareth Southgate’s heroes seal a place in their firstever Euros final, England fans are being urged.

The Three Lions are red-hot favourites to bring home the bacon against Denmark in tonight’s semi-final.

Daily Star readers helped Harry Kane’s men seal their place in the last four by rubbing the England skipper’s lucky balls in the last round against Ukraine.

Now we are asking supporters to give the team another push towards glory – by putting their hands on lucky wood.

And we already have the omens on our side – because we will be playing in lucky white.

Every team that has played a knockout game at Euro 2020 wearing white had won up to last night. A source close to the squad said: “Footballers are by nature a superstitious bunch and this will be one more reason for ours to believe this is our moment.”

One Three Lions fan wrote ahead of the Wembley clash: “We have just got to wear white.’’

Bookmakers last night made England 8/11 odds-on favourites to reach their first major final in 55 years.

Up to £25million is expected to be wagered on the match.

Kane is 3/1 favourite to score first and 30/1 to net a hat-trick.

● Three Lions’ fans will sup seven million pints during the match, according to the British Beer and Pub Association.

YOU’VE all been very hands-on with your support during England’s fantastic run throughout the Euros.

And your vigorous rubbing of Harry Kane’s balls at 7.59pm on Saturday clearly worked a treat.

We hadn’t seen the lad look that relaxed in front of goal all tournament.

But now we need you to go one step further by grabbing hold of the nearest bit of wood before tonight’s pulsating semi-final clash.

The players need all the help they can get to bring home the bacon against Denmark. This is likely to be a much tougher game against a decent side.

So it would be remiss not to beat off any bad omens by touching your timber.

And if it has the same effect it did against the Ukrainians, then we’ll all be very excited indeed – and Wembley will erupt like it never has before.

Then hopefully we can all take a nice cold shower before doing it all again on Sunday.
