BACKSTAGE with TYLER SHAW

FOLLOWING in the footsteps of fellow Canadian superstars The Weeknd and Justin Bieber, Tyler Shaw’s latest single Sex On The Beach is becoming the soundtrack to this summer.

I caught up with the producer/singer/ songwriter to talk about the track, touring with Selena Gomez and his forthcoming album.

Hi, Tyler, Have you coped OK these past couple of years?

“These last couple of years have been trying for everyone and I’ve been really lucky to have a safe, healthy and happy family to lean on during all of it.”

How did your latest single Sex On The Beach come about?

“My producer Pilz and I were just kidding around and discussing summer songs and those key elements that make it feel like summer. Originally this song was called Nights On The Beach, but we wanted to add a little tongue and cheek to it, hence Sex On The Beach.”

Your songs are always so beautifully written, does this mean you’re good with showing your emotions in relationships?

“You would think so. I actually have a more difficult time articulating my feelings and emotions to friends and family.”

How is the album coming along?

“The album is finally finished!”

You’ve toured with the likes of Selena Gomez. Did you learn anything from such a huge production?

“I think one of the bigger takeaways from that tour wasn’t so much something Selena said to me but just watching her perform night after night on a giant stage and making everyone from the front row to the rafters feel a level of connectedness and intimacy in such large venues.”
