DAMI A FAN OF TATTOO DUTIES
EUROVISION champions
Måneskin have inadvertently become tattoo artists thanks to their fans.
The Italian rockers, back with new song Mammamia today, have enjoyed huge chart success across the world this year.
And one fan encounter outside a hotel in Sweden led to new inking skills.
Lead singer Damiano David explained: “A girl and guy came up to us with a case with a tattoo gun inside and said, ‘I want you to get me a tattoo”.
“But I have never done that in my life, so I was like, ‘It’s gonna be dangerous you will get an infection,’ so we didn’t.
“But then I bought a tattoo gun, it was an inspiration, now I have Mammamia (tattooed) on my body.”
He has also inked guitarist
Thomas Raggi and plans to do the rest of the band “soon”. Mammamia is a visceral rocker inspired by their success.
Damiana said: “We wrote this song immediately after Eurovision, fortunately this song came out in a few hours. That’s why we felt it was gonna work and be a banger for us.
“Mammamia is an exclamation, and we make a bit fun of the Italian stereotype. We feel we are very far from the stereotype of Italian, so it’s an inside joke.” A preview of Mammamia on Tiktok got 9.4million views in under a week, but for fans it’s more than just music that makes Måneskin so important.
Damiano agreed: “A lot of fans tell us, ‘You helped my coming out to my parents’ or ‘I dress up like I want to because I never felt confident before.’
“That’s more meaningful than any gold record, and makes us satisfied. It’s more than music.”
The band have huge tours booked for next year, including an 80,000 capacity gig, and have vowed to take inspiration from the shows for their next album.
But, despite scoring multiple Top 10 hits, they aren’t letting it all go to their heads.
Damiano joked: “We won’t change, if you are a d*ckhead and you became famous you’re a famous d*ckhead – but if you are a good person who becomes famous, then you are a famous good person.”
