WARREN FURY AMONG TRUE GREATS

- FRANK Interview by CHRIS MCKENNA

TYSON FURY cemented his position as the best heavyweight of his generation last weekend.

And for me he is right up there as one of the all-time great heavyweights.

This is the fighter who beat the previous king of the division in Wladimir Klitschko.

It was Tyson who ended the Ukrainian’s nine-year reign as the ruler of the heavyweights.

Then he has gone away and had his battles but come back to end Deontay Wilder’s five-year reign as WBC champion after 10 defences of the belt.

If there are any doubters about his place in history among the very best, then surely those two victories alone silence them.

But he has gone back again at Wilder for a third time to deliver the best heavyweight fight I’ve seen live.

What a phenomenal performer he really is. He really has it all.

Tyson can box, he can fight, he has power and he has a great chin as well as the ability to recover after taking huge shots.

Wilder’s knocked out 41 opponents in his career. He’s had three goes at Tyson and he couldn’t manage it.

He may not be the best boxer but he is a monster puncher, while Klitschko is a very good and awkward boxer.

Tyson did a job on both of them. What more can he do?

He could have mixed with the best of any era. If Tyson had fought Muhammad Ali, with his height, reach and weight advantages, he would have had a great chance.

But looking back, it’s not going over the top to say it was one of the best-ever heavyweight fights.

Wilder was part of it, too, and deserves huge credit.

Wilder said he only needs to be perfect for two seconds. He showed

that again.
