Play like this and Klopp stars will destroy us warns Scholes

- By DAVID MCDONNELL

GARY NEVILLE has openly admitted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s status as a friend and former team-mate means he will never call for him to be sacked.

But Paul Scholes broke ranks from the Manchester United cabal in the wake of the 3-2 comeback win over Atalanta to provide a damning assessment of Solskjaer.

Scholes cut through the euphoria of United’s epic comeback from 2-0 down, pointing out superior opponents would not have left a route back for Solskjaer’s men. United’s arch-rivals Liverpool, in rampant form with 36 goals from 12 games this season, visit Old Trafford on Sunday, with Scholes already fearing the worst.

“If we play like that against a proper team, it’ll be disastrous,” said Scholes, looking ahead to the showdown.

“That first half United had two midfielders playing on their own and if they do that against Liverpool and City they’ll be four down by half-time.

“They’ll get destroyed. There was no connection between the team.

“Fred gets pushed out

[for the first goal] and

Scott Mctominay didn’t know where to go.

“If that happened, could you imagine Kevin

De Bruyne playing against that?

“Ole was emotional after the game, but the shape was all wrong in the first half and I thought they had too many chances.

“To be fair, when a team is getting beaten 2-0 at half-time at home, I wouldn’t say the performance could be that good.

“Ole was emotional, he’s just won a game, but I didn’t like the first half and it’s worried me.”

United have kept just one clean sheet in their last 20 games, proof of a team that is not being coached properly in the basic principles of defending.
