CHRIS HAS GOT WILD BORO DREAMS

-

CHRIS WILDER has ordered Middlesbrough to “dare to dream” and aim to recreate the club’s glory days.

The new Boro boss is desperate to take the Teessiders back into the Premier League after spending 11 of the last 12 seasons in the second tier.

Middlesbrough won the League Cup and reached the UEFA Cup final under Steve Mcclaren.

But besides one top-flight campaign with Aitor Karanka in charge in 2016-17, there’s been little to cheer in recent times.

Wilder (inset) who has succeeded Neil Warnock, recalled the magical days of Juninho, Fabrizio Ravanelli and the Euro campaign yesterday and said: “We want to play Liverpool, Man United... that has to be the ambition. We want the big names coming. We dare to dream. We will give

by SIMON BIRD everything to make the dream happen.

“We can achieve a successful club and one that can get back to the Premier League.

“I won’t make a statement that we will do it in six months but that has to be the ambition.

“Those cup finals and European nights were an incredible period at the club. We should not be scared of trying to repeat that.

“There is an opportunity to create history. There’s a drive from the top. There’s a drive from me and there is a drive from the supporters. But words are easy. We have to go and win.”

Wilder took Sheffield United from the bottom of League One to top half in the Premier League before a second season threw up defeat after defeat and he left. An eight-month break has left Wilder, 54, energised. He said: “My previous club stoked the fire in my belly. There is a hunger. “I’m 20 years in management, no break apart from this one. I’ve missed it. All my ambitions can be achieved at this football club.”
