STEVEN SPURS THE DUTCH TO VICTORY

-

TOTTENHAM ace Steven Bergwijn fired home late to help secure HOLLAND’S place at next year’s World Cup.

Bergwijn struck with six minutes to go in Rotterdam to secure a place in Qatar for the Dutch.

Barcelona’s Memphis Depay got a second in stoppage time to seal a 2-0 win over NORWAY.

Louis van Gaal’s side were at risk of being dumped out with the game deadlocked heading into the final 10 minutes.

A Norway winner would have put them third as Turkey beat Montenegro 2-1, but the hosts held their nerve to top Group G.

Turkey will now enter the play-offs while Norway – who were without the injured Erling Haaland – will not be heading to Qatar.

Holland blew a two-goal lead against Montenegro on Saturday which meant they had to avoid defeat last night.

They dominated a dull game without fans due to recently re-imposed Covid-19 restrictions in

Holland. Depay went close before the break before Arnaut Danjuma fired over just after.

Norway pushed forward but without Haaland they lacked any real threat.

Then Danjuma slid the ball across to Bergwijn, who fired home to ease any growing tension. Depay then tapped home after Bergwijn played the ball across to him after a quick counterattack.

The win means Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk will finally feature in a major tournament after he missed Euro 2020 with a knee injury.

FRANCE ended Group D with a 2-0 victory in FINLAND, thanks to goals from Karim Benzema and Kylian Mbappe

(inset), while UKRAINE finished runners up after a 2-0 win against BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA.

In Group E, CZECH REPUBLIC finished a point behind Wales following a 2-0 win over ESTONIA.
