TON WILL COME FOR DAVIES

- By STEFFAN THOMAS

WAYNE PIVAC says Jonathan Davies will still reach a century of caps – despite being left out for Wales’ autumn finale against Australia.

The veteran was once seen as one of the best centres in the world but has struggled with injuries and form over the past couple of seasons.

And Wales head coach Pivac has opted to omit Davies (inset) from his squad to face the Wallabies tomorrow with Uilisi Halaholo and Nick Tompkins preferred.

But Pivac insists the 33-year-old, who has won 99 caps for both Wales and the British & Irish Lions, is still part of his plans. He said: “I can’t speak on his behalf but what I can tell you is that we’ve had conversations and Jonathan understands exactly why we’re making these selections.

“He knows that we’ve got a World Cup that we’re working back from and he’s desperate to play at that World Cup.

“He believes he’s got something to contribute and offer, otherwise I believe he would retire.

“Jonathan has got something to offer in our view and that’s why he’s in the squad.

“We’ll just have to wait and see how things pan out.” Pivac, who has made seven changes to the side which saw off Fiji last Sunday, is still desperate to beat a wounded Australian side.

He said: “No matter what the situation we’re still there to win Test matches.”
