A NORTH-east town has been crowned Britain’s happiest place to live.
Hexham in Northumberland won the title, ahead of rivals Richmondupon-Thames in southwest London and Harrogate, North Yorks.
The average price tag on a house in Hexham is £297,088 – just a quarter of Richmond’s £1.2million.
Mayor Derek Kennedy said “We are a small town with great history. There is a wonderful community spirit, people are very supportive of one another.”
Hove in East Sussex and Llandrindod Wells in midWales came fourth and fifth in the poll carried out for Rightmove.

ORDERS for vegan are up 81% in a year.
Veganism has taken the UK by storm in recent years – and according to Papa John’s the trend is not slowing down.
The popular food delivery chain revealed orders of completely plant-based pizzas from their stores have risen rapidly.
The vegan trend is not specific to its pizza either, as data shows a 154% jump in customers opting for meat-free side dishes.
Giles Codd, of Papa John’s UK, said: “It’s great to see demand for vegan food continue to grow.”
