Thankful Matt can Bear heat

-

CHICAGO BEARS boss Matt Nagy has given thanks on America’s big holiday for still having a job – for the time being at least.

Pressure is mounting after a 16-13 loss to the Baltimore Ravens made it five straight defeats and left the Bears at 3-7.

With tonight’s traditional Thanksgiving Day fixtures seeing Chicago visit a Detroit Lions team that has lost nine of its 10 games this season, reports suggested a loss would cost Nagy his job. But he says he has not spoken to Chicago owner George McCaskey or management about his security and was just focusing on a win.

Nagy said: “My focus is on these players and Detroit, and that’s it.

“My job as a head coach and a leader is to do that. These players have been amazing. They’ve been great. You have this quick turnaround after a loss like Sunday’s and now here you go. The only thing we can do is focus on the now and do everything we can.”

To make matters worse for Nagy, Detroit could have injured quarterback Jared Goff back today.

Lions coach Dan Campbell said: “He’s tough but I want to make sure he’s definitely ready to go and I think it’s trending that way.”

With the NFL traditionally holding three big games on Thanksgiving, the other two see the Las Vegas Raiders visit the Dallas Cowboys while the New Orleans Saints host the Buffalo Bills.

Dallas lost to Kansas City last weekend to fall to 7-3 with a number of key players missing due to Covid and injuries, and quarterback Dan Prescott is guaranteeing a response.

He said: “This is a resilient team that’s going to continue to fight and get better, I can tell you that.”
