CORRIE’s Gemma Winter has been doing her best to be an ally for the deaf community but in a new storyline she takes it a little too far.

The mum (DollyRose Campbell) stages a public protest in Weatherfield about the lack of sign language teaching – a cause close to her heart as her son with Chesney Brown, Aled, is deaf.

However, producer Iain MacLeod has teased it doesn’t go the way she planned.

He said: “Gemma – in her eagerness to be an ally to the deaf community – goes ever so slightly too far.

“It brings itself to a significant incident of public disorder – but in a Corrie way.”

WITH his youthful looks it’s no wonder Phillip Schofield is dubbed The Peter Pan of TV at the age of 59.

But if he wants to stay forever young he might want to start taking ice baths and eating ginger.

That’s what This Morning guest star “Spice Girl” Tonia Buxton swears by. The chef and pro-ageing adviser earned the nickname for her love of all hot spices, especially chili.

She is joining Lisa Snowdon and Liz Earle today for a new slot on the daytime show called Fab At 50 encouraging viewers to embrace ageing.

Tonia, 54, revealed how she stays looking so good: “Turmeric spice is the biggy for me. It’s the most incredible anti-inflammatory, so it helps with aches and pains.

“And I adore ice baths, too. Once you have tried the amazing benefits of cold therapy there is no turning back!

“It’s great for inflammation, mental health and cellulite!”

CALLING all football clubs. You might want to sign up Vera star Brenda Blethyn! While filming scenes for the ITV Sunday night series about DCI Vera Stanhope, she showed she has some secret skills.

Co-star Kenny Doughty revealed: “We had to pull up outside a house and the mum was there and her little boy was playing football in the street.

“The idea was the child could kick the football to me and I’d kick it back, but I wasn’t very good so Brenda said she would do it.

“Like a pro, the child wellied the ball to her and Brenda trapped it right in position all in one take. It was perfect.”
