FRANK WARREN JOE CAN NAIL WORLD SHOT
JOE JOYCE has the chance to show the heavyweight division he is the business tonight.
The Juggernaut takes on Christian Hammer ready to nail himself down as one of the biggest threats in the division.
Joe has been out for almost 12 months with a broken wrist but he’s maintained his position as the No.1 challenger with the WBO and he’s champing at the bit to get his world title shot.
That will come, that’s for sure. As long as he does the business against the veteran Hammer at Wembley
Arena, which is part of a packed card on BT Sport.
Joe was ready to face Joseph Parker tonight in what would have been a massive heavyweight clash.
But we covered how the Kiwi puncher ducked out of that fight in last week’s column.
Now the plan is for Joe (inset) to demolish Hammer and keep the Juggernaut rolling into the next one.
Anthony Joshua takes on WBA, IBF and WBO champion Oleksandr Uysk on
August 20. The winner of that will surely want to take on the current heavyweight king and WBC champion Tyson Fury for the undisputed crown.
But either after that fight, or if it doesn’t happen, then the sanctioning bodies will start enforcing mandatories.
Joe is perfectly placed to get a crack at a world title. It is amazing that he’s in this position after just 13 professional fights. It’s remarkable he has got into this position after so few fights in the paid ranks but the Olympic silver medallist is now ready for his shot.
He still needs to get the job done against Hammer and then we will get him out again in September to ensure he is ready for his title crack.
It should be an exciting night with Jason Cunningham looking to move towards a world title by taking on former champion Zolani Tete at superbantamweight as part of a brilliant card.
