Corey and Co aren’t history yet

- ■ by ANDY DEAN

THE writing looks to be on the wall for Forest Green this season but wing-back Corey O’Keeffe insists the fight is not over yet.

Rovers are 14 points from safety and know that defeat at home to high-flying Barnsley today would condemn them to an immediate return to League Two.

Given they have only won six games all season, a recovery charge looks unlikely but O’Keeefe (inset) insists this is not mission impossible.

He said: “The fact is we are not down yet and we are not giving up and we won’t give up.

“We have to keep working and keep fighting and you never know what can happen.

“There have been a few surprises in this league. We played Sheffield Wednesday and beat them, so we can mix it with anyone.”

Time is also running out for Morecambe to save themselves.

They have played two games more than most of the teams around them but still sit five points adrift of Oxford just outside the drop zone.

They face Wycombe at home, while fellow strugglers Accrington welcome Fleetwood and Cambridge host Peterborough in an early kick-off.

The League One title is still very much a three-horse race and current leaders Wednesday are at Burton, second-placed Plymouth travel up the M5 to take on Exeter at noon and Kieran McKenna (inset) and his Ipswich side host Charlton.

There is not much on the line as Lincoln and Port Vale meet at the LNER Stadium but elsewhere there are play-off places to fight for.

Derby’s shaky recent form has seen them slip out of the top six, so they need to reverse their fortunes today at Bristol Rovers and Bolton, above the Rams on goal difference, will look to continue their charge at Oxford.

MK Dons have just a four-point cushion over the sides in the relegation zone ahead of facing Cheltenham at home, while Portsmouth travel to take on Shrewsbury this afternoon.
