WEDDING WOES

Charity and Mackenzie’s big day is in doubt as they’re jailed in A-Team costumes. We go on set to find out more

Emmerdale is known for its explosive weddings, with previous twists including kidnaps and deadly storms. So it’s no surprise that Charity Dingle and Mackenzie Boyd’s big day looks set to be anything but smooth sailing.

To celebrate the ITV soap’s upcoming nuptials, we were lucky enough to travel to the Yorkshire Dales to learn everything about the dramatic will-they-won’t-they ceremony.

When we arrive, the set is buzzing as cast and crew prepare for a busy few days of filming at St Mary’s Church. Expecting to see glamorous outfits and a bridal gown, it’s a surprise to be confronted by The A Team’s “Howling Mad”Murdock, Templeton “Face” Peck and John “Hannibal” Smith costumes.

In the scenes, Moira Dingle helps Charity surprise superfan Mack with a replica A-Team van as a gift, but as the couple (in fancy dress) decide to get steamy in the vehicle, they’re arrested by PC Swirling, who tells them the van’s been involved in a robbery!

Spending the night in cells, the pair are unsure if the wedding can go ahead, but they’re soon released and reluctant vicar Charles Anderson agrees to marry them in their costumes. But in true soap style, pregnant Chloe Harris, who Mackenzie had a one-night stand with last year, goes into labour just before the wedding. When Mackenzie learns the news, he leaves the church on a mission while Charity fears she’s been jilted.

Despite the dramatic scenes, the warmth on set is infectious and you’d be hard pushed to find a more friendly cast. The actors share in-jokes as they take a break to grab a cuppa in the Village Hall, proving the Dingle family bond is real, both on and off-screen.

And the same is apparent at lunch, where we’re treated to delicious food from a catering van. Sitting among the cast and waving to those walking past, it feels as though we’ve popped round for tea at Wishing Well Cottage, not an ITV cafeteria.

But while laughter fills the air between takes, after lunch it’s back to business, and as the cameras start rolling, the cast seamlessly transform back into their characters.

After more filming, another tea break and a catch-up with the bride and groom, sadly it’s time to head back to Leeds station and away from Emmerdale life. But having had a sneak peek of the dramatic wedding, we can’t wait to see if there’s a happy ever after!
