Winners lose out to Ryder

HE NICKS CLOTHES!

-

HAPPY Mondays star Shaun Ryder rinsed The Lottery Winners when they collaborated.

The No1 band had the Mancunian singer feature on their song Money – but were left out of pocket when he stole their clothes and filled his pockets with food.

Although Shaun did offer up a gift of his own…

Frontman Thom Rylance told me: “When he came in he asked for some Celebrations, McCoy’s and cans of Guinness.

“He took all the Celebrations that he wanted, took some McCoy’s stuffed them in his pockets and took the cans of Guinness and he went, ‘There I’ll swap you for that,’ and he put a conker down on the ta“I ble. I thought, ‘That is incredible’ – and so I have put that conker in a frame.

“Being in the studio with Shaun Ryder is exactly what I imagined being in a studio with Shaun Ryder would be like.”

However, Thom said the conker doesn’t make up for Shaun nicking his clothes from the set of the music video. He added: “I am a bit annoyed as he stole my trousers. We got some clothes ready to go for shooting, and I brought a few pairs of my pants as we are a similar size.

“But they are the ones I wear on stage and stuff and he took them all home!

“He was like, ‘I’m gonna keep these, and I am gonna keep that jacket too in case I have any radio interviews.’

was confused. I was like, ‘I can’t even tell you how wrong that is Shaun, why do you need it on radio?’”

The Lottery Winners fought off tough competition from Jessie Ware, The National and Nines to top the album charts this week with Anxiety Replacement Therapy but Thom said he owes a lot of his success to idol Johnny Marr.

The Leigh-born singer revealed: “He gave me some amazing advice he said, ‘Don’t try and change with the trends because they come and go so quickly, be authentic to you, keep going and it will work.’

“And here we are talking about our number one album, and we’ve never changed so thank you Johnny.”
