Rams face Warne hell of a battle

- ■ BY ANDY DEAN

A SERIES of high noon showdowns will decide the outstanding bits of business in the regular League One season tomorrow.

The top two – Plymouth and Ipswich – are already up automatically and will fight it out for the title as they visit Port Vale and Fleetwood respectively.

Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley and Bolton have all booked their spots in the play-offs, meaning Derby and Peterborough have been left to battle it out for sixth place.

They couldn’t have asked for much tougher last-day assignments, though.

Paul Warne (inset) takes his Rams to Hillsborough, where Wednesday have only lost once in the league all season, while Posh are also in Yorkshire taking on Barnsley.

Bolton’s final fixture before the play-offs is a trip to Bristol Rovers.

At the bottom, Forest Green already know their fate and Accrington will join them in League Two next season barring a monumental set of results as they prepare to go to Oxford.

Stanley are three points from safety with a vastly inferior goal difference to the teams above them.

MK Dons – currently outside the drop zone thanks to an eight-goal margin – would almost certainly be safe if they win at Burton, while Morecambe are at Exeter, backed by more than 600 supporters, needing to win and hope the Brewers do them a favour.

Cambridge are in the bottom four ahead of facing

Forest Green and forward Harvey Knibbs (inset) said: “We have probably known for a while that three points would be needed from the final day of the season.

“So from that point of view the plan and focus have not changed.

“All we can do is take care of our business and hope results have gone our way.”

Portsmouth bring the curtain down on their season in front of their own fans with the visit of Wycombe, while Cheltenham and Charlton meet with nothing on the line at Whaddon Road.

Lincoln and Shrewsbury play out their final game at the LNER Stadium.
