2 Spending far more than a penny, a fan of John Lennon splashed out £9,500 for his old porcelain toilet, which the Jealous Guy singer gave to builder John Hancock and told him to use it “as a plant pot”. It went up for auction in 2010 at the 33rd annual Beatles Convention in Liverpool.
3 Many record companies tried to have chart success with pop clones of her, but when Britney Spears’ actual DNA went up for grabs on a bit of gum she spat out in 2004 outside London’s Sanderson hotel, it was questionable what bubble the purchaser was living in. It sold for £11,400.
4 Raising money for Aussie charity Youngcare in 2012 a piece of toast spread with Vegemite bitten by then One Direction singer Niall Horan sold for £81,600 on eBay.
5 A broken talon from the fair hands of singer Lady Gaga at a gig in Dublin was swept up by a crew member who sold the black and gold acrylic nail for £9,800.
6 One might think it was blooming bonkers but in 2012 a pair of Queen Elizabeth II’s pants were sold for £14,400. A member of staff left them on a plane in 1968 following a trip to Chile.
7 Bra-vo to the savvy seller who earned £22,000 after getting their mitts on Marilyn Monroe’s nude coloured bra.
8 As Hollywood A-listers they no doubt smell as sweet as roses. However, even though it might sound like a load of hot air, in 2010 a fan paid £340 for a jar of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s breath.
9 Throwing it over your shoulders might not give you the same skills in the ring as boxer Muhammad Ali but the robe he wore in a fight against Larry Holmes raised £12,000 at an auction in 1980. It has his name stitched on the back in black leather.
10 Snot a joke, a tissue which Lost In Translation actress Scarlett Johansson used while on America’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 2008 went for auction instead of going straight in the bin. It raised £4,300 for hunger charity USA Harvest after she signed the bag it was put in.
