DANNY’S SPOILERS

- ■ by BRENDAN McLOUGHLIN

DANNY WEBB has warned that Chesterfield are ready to play the bad guys and rip up Notts County’s promotion script.

The Midlands clubs meet in the National League play-off final at Wembley tonight.

Despite racking up 107 points, County were edged out by Wrexham in the automatic promotion race.

Dragons owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have openly admitted they are now “rooting” for the Magpies in the play-offs.

But Spireites No.2 Webb (inset) insists they are ready to play the villains as they bid to end their five-year EFL exile.

He said: “If you’re Wrexham and have the chance to get million-pound movie stars invest and help you win the league, you’re going to be happy.

“There’s certainly no judgment or bitterness about that from me. It really wouldn’t matter to me who turns up to support Notts County. They are going to have a lot of hardcore supporters there and so are we.

“If there are two American lads there with Notts County scarves on then I’m sure no one will notice!”

The two teams finished second and third – but the Magpies finished 23 points ahead of the Spireites.

“There should be more go up automatically,” Webb added. “They certainly pushed Wrexham close but until the rules change they have to crack on with the play-offs. Are we ready to spoil the party? Totally. “We’ve got probably the most loyal supporters I’ve ever come across and as long as they are behind us that’s all we care about.

“This club needs to be back in League Two and it will be soul destroying if we don’t win it.”
