SAM’S EURO VISION

Kerr eyes Champions prize

- ■ by IAN WINROW

SAM KERR is targeting Champions League success next season after Chelsea wrapped up a fourth successive WSL title.

The deadly Australian striker scored twice as Emma Hayes’ side grabbed a final-day 3-0 win at relegated Reading to fight off the challenge of Manchester United.

Guro Reiten was also on target as the Blues swept to victory to complete their third straight league and FA Cup Double, but Kerr is aiming even higher next season.

She said: “The next step for us is to play like that in the Champions League.

“To win two trophies is amazing but it would have been great to have brought two more back to Chelsea.”

Boss Hayes, who had emergency surgery in October, admitted this season had been her toughest yet.

She said: “This has definitely been the hardest year. I’m relieved that it’s over for lots of reasons.”

Defeat condemned Reading to relegation, ending the Royals’ eightyear stay in the top flight.

Chelsea’s win ensured Manchester United finished two points adrift in second place despite winning 1-0 at Liverpool.

United boss Marc Skinner said: “If I were them (Chelsea), I would be very, very aware of Manchester United.”

Arsenal lost 2-0 at home to Aston Villa but held on to third, separated by goal difference from Manchester City who signed off with a 3-2 win against Everton.

Paul Konchesky’s one-season spell in charge of West Ham came to an end yesterday as they finished eighth following a 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

The former England international said: “My players and my staff have always given me 100 per cent and while some of our results have been disappointing this season, we still have a lot to be proud of.”
