Perpetuating a myth

-

THE TERM ‘MINERALITY’, or any allusion to aroma or flavour in wine of minerals or rocks does not make scientific sense. minerals have neither an aroma nor a flavour, and minerality is widely discounted, with no serious text on wine tasting mentioning it. In Decanter’s september 2016 issue, I counted more than 100 references to mineral, minerality, flint, graphite, gravel, limestone, silex, stone and so on. Why cloud a description with at best illdefined terms, which must be taken on trust? David Baker via email
