What I’ve been drinking this month

You know it’s a great tasting when you long to drink many of the wines you have just surveyed, spittoon to hand. So it was with a Napa Valley Vintners tasting I did in St Helena recently. If I could have salvaged just one wine for dinner, it would have been the Oakville, Gallica Cabernet Sauvignon 2013: low-hanging boughs of blue plums and flowers on the nose, then a rich, deep and dense flavour with fine structure and aromatic refinement. A big wine without bigness: poised, fresh and balanced, with athletic tannins bringing shape and support.
