My top three
Jane Anson
Ségla, Margaux 2010 One of the most consistent second wines in Bordeaux, this has elegant fruit and depth on the nose. It can be drunk from today, but needs time to open up, so make sure you carafe it first. Tannins are still young, the acidity well balanced, with beautiful grip through the palate. Black fruits, liquorice and spice dominate. 93 Drink 2017-2030
La Réserve de Léoville Barton,
St-Julien 2010 Beautifully poised, with tobacco leaf and tight cassis on the attack, and a lovely smoky edge to the nose. This is a true little brother to the first wine in this vintage: well balanced, with a juicy quality to the damson fruit and good persistence. The structure is vibrating with life. 93 Drink 2017-2028
Marquis de Calon, St-Estèphe
2009 This has ripe yet sleek fruit with a sense of fun and abandon. Chocolate dusting over damson and black cherry fruit. Contemporary in style, showing that even Bordeaux can let its hair down from time to time. 92 Drink 2016-2025
